The study was funded by the National Cancer Institute. They took 15,500 healthy men and women and reviewed their physical activity and weight history between the ages of 45 and 55. First off, those who practiced yoga for just a half-hour a week gained fewer pounds than others. The more dramatic effect came with overweight people. Those who practiced yoga lost around five pounds over 10 years, while those who didn’t gained an average of 14 pounds.
This proves yoga’s fat-burning potential — and these people did only 30 minutes a week. That is very little in the whole scheme of things. It is easy for anyone to set aside 30 minutes four times a week. The more you do a fat-burning exercise, well, the more fat gets burned. Some experts believe that yoga makes you more in tune with your body, meaning that you gain an understanding of being full during dinner rather than those who continue eating because they can’t tell they are full. Yoga improves your mental outlook as well, and there is no shortage of studies that prove the distinct link between mind and body.
Anybody can perform yoga, even the most inflexible of us. You can take classes at a local gym, and it is quite easy to learn and perform in the comfort and convenience of your own home. There are thousands of yoga videos available to purchase. It could be the most relaxing way to fight the battle of the bulge.
