Gooseneck trailers have over the years been very handy for hauling animals, especially horses and cows. As such they are a pretty sensitive type of trailer because extra care is needed to ensure the safe haulage of these animals. There is also a need to protect the trailer and the towing truck to minimize you costs. (in other words “metal fatigue”) This is achievable by means of applying engineering elements onto various towing fixtures concerned.
A variety of gooseneck hitches are available in the market. Modern versions are bent on concealing the gooseneck ball to allow the truck’s bed to be usable for other purposes and hence the ball is reversible or foldable. Hitches can be fabricated over the truck’s bed while some are affixed directly to the frame of the towing vehicle. The former type involves the boring of several holes into the truck’s bed. The latter is thus preferred as only a single hole is required – that for the gooseneck ball. This latter type, such as The Cody Gooseneck
Hitch is fabricated to reduce installation time and even avoiding the need to remove the bed to affix it. In addition it is secured solidly to the frame of the vehicle which is the stoutest method.
Gooseneck Trailers along with the goods or animals within are always subject to jerks especially while on rough roads. This can be effectively reduced with the use of air cushioned hitches such as the CODY AIR CUSHION, where the shock absorber lies between the ball and the truck’s bed. In this case, detachable balls are necessary as it features a mounting stub which fits where the ball is located on the truck bed. Thus the trailer is free from many vibrations that would otherwise subject it to metal fatigue, and the tow truck & equip is like-wise protected.
It is a necessity by law for gooseneck trailers to be secured to the pickup truck using a convenient safety chain system during transit. Two varieties abide for this system, with one securing the safety chains to the body of the vehicle using U-bolts, while the other uses a method whereby the chains attach to the gooseneck ball’s cavity. Both of these methods are available with the CODY GOOSENECK HITCH and the cost is the same for each.
