Plan a Trip to the Maremma Area in Tuscany for a Wonderful Vacation

If you are travelling to Tuscany in Italy, there are many interesting and relaxing places to visit and enjoy. Maremma is one of them that offer a great holiday destination for most of the tourists to visit and spend their vacation at leisure. If you look at Maremma, it is a unique place and certainly deserves a visit. The place is not only just about culture and breathtaking panoramas but also wine tasting and typical products of the place.

Maremma has beautiful landscape and pretty villas. The food in Maremma is quite simple and the culinary art is common among the locals, whereas seasonal products are eaten with a good glass of wine such as Morellino or the white wine from Pitigliano. The most envoy dish is acquacotta, a dish that has fed the people of the Maremma for generations and a symbol of making a virtue out of necessity. The must-have ingredient for all recipes is the extra virgin olive oil from Maremma. On the other hand, there isn’t any one traditional recipe of the traditional dishes because every housewife has their own and uses seasonal products from their own garden and cheese from their own flock, which can be relished at leisure.

Stretching between the provinces of Livorno and Grosseto along the coast in south-western Tuscany, Maremma covers almost the quarter part of the Tuscany. The place is the perfect destination to visit and enjoy because of its varied geographical features such as tantalising sea, marvellous hills and mountains that blend together and colour of its panoramas in extraordinary nature’s works of art. Everything blended so beautifully that a trip to Maremma and staying at one of the Tuscany villas will be a great memoir.

The region of Maremma is divided into three parts which are equally important and comprises of the central part, the northern part and the southern part. The central part of Maremma itself covers the area of Grosseto and its surroundings. The area’s history is well depicted in Grosseto’s cathedral, Senese Castle and Medici-era walls. In fact, many traces of its glorious past can be found in the surroundings, including the remarkable archaeological site of the Etruscan city of Roselle. The northern Maremma covers most of the province of Livorno and includes the Metalliferous hill area and the area between there and the Gulf of Follonica. The most representative spot of this charming landscape is Massa Marittima, a small yet important medieval city that has a remarkable cathedral and a massive castle. The place demonstrates the beautiful shades of the history of Etruscans perfectly blended with the art of the region which can be seen in the cathedrals, churches, castles, fortresses and watchtowers. The southern Maremma borders Lazio and is the most representative area of the whole region. The inner area is famous for its tufo rock and its Etruscan roots, as attested by the towns of Pitigliano, Sorano and Sovana. Nearby are the famous thermal baths of Saturnia. Thus, it would be a great trip to Maremma on your tour to Tuscany. You can greatly enjoy the beauty of the landscapes along with the history and art of the region.
