As with our radon mitigation policy, we only sell you what you need. For example, if you have a water test showing an iron content over .3 ppm, it’s likely you will need some type of water treatment system. What kind you need depends on the type of iron you are removing.
If the iron is “particulate” (ferric) then you will need to strain out the particles using a filtration system that is properly sized for your situation. Not doing this can cause the aeration system to fail, clogging the delivery valves, which will allow the system to overfill and flood the surrounding area with water. If the iron is in a soluble form (ferrous), the most popular treatment method is to install an “Ion Exchange” unit, commonly known as a water softener. Water softeners attract soluble metals from the water using positive and negative charges. It’s possible that both types of pre-treatment methods are needed.
