The goal of GE Lighting is currently pegged at energy efficiency when it comes to their upcoming LED light bulb series. That seems to be the trend not only for this lighting industry giant but for every bigwig that GE has come to compete with. Of course, the usual goals that include aesthetics, light quality, and exceeding customer expectations also come into play. Since Philips, one of the company’s rivals, released their “Endura” 12.5 watt LED equivalent to a 60-watt incandescent bulb, GE is determined to catch up with and match their rival in reaching the latest LED industry standard.
Future Plans and Designs
Customers can expect the new 60 watt equivalent LED replacements bulbs to be available in 2012. GE announced that they are dedicating a huge amount of their resources to product design and research. A lot of engineering efforts and product testing is being invested in these new replacement LED lights. The idea behind the huge drive is to create products that outperform the company’s own high standards.
Customers will get to sample what GE is cooking up in their think tanks come November 2011. The company is scheduled to release their 13-watt Energy Smart LED. It is set to replace the 60-watt incandescent bulb. Another interesting feature of this new replacement LED light bulb is the fact that it is dimmable, like Philips 12.5 watt Endura LED.
The new innovations currently being designed include smooth dimming. This dimming feature will be comparable to that of incandescent bulbs. That definitely will be a big step up for LED lights in general. The usual problems that plague dimming LED’s include pop on, drop offs, shimmering, flickers, and stepped dimming, which are all a far cry from the actual dimming capabilities of incandescent bulbs.
Another engineering design in the works for the upcoming GE LED replacement bulbs is achieving omni-directional light, which is also comparable to the properties of incandescent bulbs. The idea is to make LED lights that do not just push the light out of a lampshade.
Dealing with aesthetics, the new replacement LED bulbs will resemble incandescent bulbs both in features and size. The new bulbs will be made to look like the old bulbs that they will replace, but will have far superior energy saving benefits, being almost 80% more energy efficient. This means that these new LED’s will have that appealing soft-white look when they are turned off, which is a feature that many customers prefer.
The current LED lights that GE offers customers already include a broad range of wattages, shapes, and colors. The current LED bulbs already out in the market include PAR20 and PAR30 spot and flood lights, small globes, medium globes, ceiling fan bulbs, night lights, and candles. Consumers are to expect the coming of 60, 75, and 100 watt replacement equivalents in much lower wattage LED’s in the months to come.
According to current market data, the upcoming 60-watt replacement LED’s will become quite popular. Most customers and households prefer to use 60-watt bulbs. The second most popular bulb is the 100-watt bulb followed by the 75 and 40 watt type bulbs. GE’s replacement LED light bulb series will be tested rigorously for long life, constant color, and certifiable lumen ratings.
