Everything else like your firearms certification and baton card, should you require or desire them, will follow later.
So how does one get a guard card in California? It is actually quite simple. Most of the time the company that you want to work for will be able to refer you to reputable training center that will assist you in acquiring your ca guard card. In fact, occasionally they are the ones that will pay for the test, providing you pass and are hired with that company.. So, this is usually a good place to start looking to get your guard card. If you do not know who you may be working for just yet, a quick google search for “California guard card” should render results with security training companies close to you that you can contact for info. Following your initial application you will be able to schedule your training class. Most Ca guard card training schools provide numerous choices for you to train for the test. The training does have a fee – usually about $60 – $75 and many schools don’t take credit cards or give discounts for cash carrying customers.. so bring cash and be prepared.
Once you have paid your fee and shown up to class, all you need to do is provide proof that you are above eighteen years of age and take the class within the security training center that you have chosen. This is going to be an all-day class. Here they will show the specifics of being a guard for that specific facility or company.
Once completed all you have to do is pass the test. It may seem daunting because most of the time it is required to pass the test with a 100% score but then again the tests are very easy and it is not uncommon for proctors to allow test takers to re-do questions until they get it right.
If you pass, your fingerprints are taken, and fees to the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) are collected and you are issued your temporary guard card. Now you qualify to become an unarmed security guard. Becoming a guard may seem simple but it is an important responsibility that should not be taken lightly. The security and livelihood of a business or organization could very well be counting on YOU. Getting your California Guard Card is but one step to becoming a full-on private or corporate Security guard.
