You got your dream job in a different city and are all excited about the same. After calling everyone and informing them about the job and some initial celebrations, you realize something. It occurs to you that you have a bike along with you. What options do you have then?
Well, you have just two options with you at this point in time. First is that you sell the bike in the current city and buy a new one as soon as you arrive at your destination. But that would mean you have to sell your bike, not many of us would like that to happen.
The second option available to you is to transport the bike to the destination city along with you. If the next city is within riding range, there are no issues at all. But what if you are changing states? Though you can still ride your bike and go, it will be difficult and not the most feasible option. Transporting your bike seems the most logical solution here.
Is Bike Insurance Policy Must for Transporting a Bike?
When transporting your bike from one city to another, it is essential that you have valid comprehensive bike insurance. When you have the policy, you will be covered against any damage to the bike while in transit. The cost of repairs or replacement of a part due to some major damage will all be covered.
Transportation companies can sometimes be rough with the vehicles which might cause some damages. You must ensure that the policy you have is a comprehensive type and not a third party liability policy, as the latter will not pay for any damage to the bike while in transit.
How to Transport Your Bike?
One of the most convenient and economical modes of transporting your bike is via Indian Railways. If you choose this option, you can either send your bike as a parcel or as luggage. If you go with the luggage option, you need to travel along with the bike on the same train. Whereas for the parcel, you need to book a slot in advance and the bike would be delivered within a week’s time. No matter which option you select, bike insurance policy is a must for transportation.
Alternatively, you can choose car and bike transportation services provided by movers and packers companies. It is comparatively an easier option, as they pick up the vehicle from your location. Though the process is pretty hassled free, it can be a bit expensive at times. Even if you choose to transport your bike using these services, you need to have a valid bike insurance along with you.
Documents Needed
For either of the options that you select, the following set of documents is necessary for transporting a bike.
- Any ID proof issued by a government agency
- Registration Card of the bike (Name should match with ID provided)
